Winter Haven man attacks ex-girlfriend, family

Winter Haven, Florida -- A Winter Haven man is behind bars after police say he attacked his ex-girlfriend, her adult children, and her elderly mother in their home.

When officers arrived at the home on Saturday, Jan. 25, they reportedly found Anthony B. Hall armed with a large kitchen knife.

Hall allegedly broke into his ex-girlfriend's home through the front door and attacked her in her bed, hitting her numerous times in the face and head with a beer can. The victim's 23-year-old son woke up to his mother screaming for help and intervened. Hall allegedly beat him multiple times on the head, face, and torso.

The victim's 70 year-old mother, 24-year-old daughter and 25-year-old son, who were in a residence next door, also heard the disturbance and came to the victim's residence. Police say Hall focused his rage on the elderly mother. The victim's daughter stepped in to protect her grandmother and Hall started hitting her.

He was eventually pushed out of the front door, where police say he fell and hit his head on a porch rail, causing a gash on the back of his head.

Hall then allegedly threatened to get a gun and shoot them all and started damaging furniture inside the house. He got a large kitchen knife and started swinging it at all of the victims, who fled and locked themselves in other rooms.

Police arrived before Hall could break into a bathroom where the grandmother was hiding and took him into custody.

None of the victims required medical attention.

Hall was taken to the Winter Haven Hospital Emergency Room for the gash on his head and then booked into the Polk County Jail on 3 counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon On Person 65 years/or older, Armed Burglary with Battery, Battery (Domestic Violence), 3 counts of Felony Battery, Resisting Officers without Violence and Criminal Mischief.

Hall has a history of Battery with convictions in 1994, 1997, and again in 1999.
