Winter Haven murder suspect turns himself in

Update on Friday, Dec. 22: WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - A Winter Haven man wanted for first-degree murder turned himself over to the Polk County Jail on Thursday night.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office arrested Johnny Ray Owsley Jr., 32, for his outstanding warrant.

Owsley was wanted for the Dec. 11 murder of Patrick Adam Thrower, according to the sheriff's office.

Original Story on Tuesday, Dec. 12: WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - The Polk County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a suspect in connection for the deadly shooting of a Winter Haven man.

Sheriff’s deputies said Patrick Adam Thrower, 35, was shot to death on Monday at Avenue J Northwest and 25th Street Northwest.

Detectives identified the suspect as Johnny Ray Owsley Jr., 32, of Winter Haven.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office issued a warrant for first-degree murder for Owsley, who has a previous robbery and driving with a suspended or revoked license charge.

The last vehicle Owsley drove is a black 2004 Dodge Durango with Florida tag number BTJS12, according to the sheriff’s office.

Detectives said Owsley arrived at his home, confronted Thrower and told him to get out of his house. Owsley’s live-in girlfriend invited Thrower to the home, according to the sheriff’s office. Owsley and Thrower left the home together before the shooting.

Owsley left the scene in a green Dodge pickup truck. He is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information on Owsley’s whereabouts is asked to call (863)298-6200 or 911.
