Winter Haven police arrest Florida prison escapee

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Winter Haven Police Department arrested an escaped prisoner from a Columbia County jail on Sunday morning.

Devonte Bodison, 20, is charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, two counts of fleeing to elude, one count of resisting arrest without violence, one count of leaving the scene of an accident with property damage and escaped prisoner charges.

Winter Haven police officers tried to make a traffic stop on Bodison, who was driving a 2016 white Chrysler 300 at 3rd Street and Avenue D Northwest. Bodison turned onto Avenue O Northeast once officers approached the Chrysler.

Bodison struck a concrete lawn ornament, causing the front wheel of the Chrysler to come off. The car then flipped over on its side, and skidded about 20 feet before coming to a rest in front of a home at the corner of Avenue O Northeast and Fairfax Avenue.

Winter Haven police said Bodison exited the vehicle through the sunroof. He then ran into the yard of a home before officers arrested him.
