Job at risk for teacher accused of sexting teen

Largo, Florida - Details are coming out in the case of an elementary school teacher accused of sexting with a teenager. The pair were caught in a bathroom together at a public rec center.

"The observation of the two going into a unisex bathroom raised some suspicion," said Lt. Stephen Slaughter. Police say 45-year-old Lesley Brown tried to explain what they were doing in there.

"They were in there because she had something in her eye and he was helping her."

Police say she told them she worked out at the rec center a few times a week, and the boy was her spotter, her workout partner. "It was a red flag after we met with the parents," Slaughter says.

The parents took the 17-year-old's phone and found some things they didn't like. "Pictures and texts of a lewd nature," said police. The woman had allegedly been sexting the teen for weeks.

Perhaps more disturbing: Brown is a 4th grade teacher at Fuguitt Elementary School. Police say there's no connection to the school, and the victim isn't a student. They think this is an isolated case.

However, she teaches children and she is charged with two felonies for sending material harmful to minors. A school district spokesperson said the teacher is on summer break, but her job could be in jeopardy. They are investigating the circumstances.

The city is already taking complaint phone calls."We'll address concerns, had a couple parents concerned and we explained it to them," said Director of Recreation Joan Byrne. But she says parents don't have to worry about their children at the rec center.

Byrne says she's proud of how staff handled this shocking scenario and stepped in. "The quick reaction was reassuring. It makes me happy of the training we've done with the staff."
