Tampa, Florida -- Tampa Day School turns 40 this school year. And students, parents, teachers and the community were invited to take part in a giant Sunday afternoon barbecue.

There was a caricature artist, games, giveaways and some great barbecue to keep the guests entertained. Teachers took turns running the ball toss and several other games.

TDS, located in the Citrus Park area of Tampa, caters to students with mild to moderate learning disabilities, dyslexia, and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and has a very low teacher-to-pupil ratio.

Head of the school, Lois Delaney, detailed the school's history for the crowd of several hundred people Sunday who turned out for a community picnic.

Delaney said, "The school started in one room of the founder's house in south Tampa with tutoring. The parents talked her into starting opening a school."

Delaney went on to yell to the crowd -- "UHA!" A simple expression that sums up the school's mission -- Every teacher Understands, Honors and Accommodates your child's unique educational needs.
