NEW YORK (AP) - A dance music festival planned to run through the weekend has been ended early over drug-related health concerns, at the city's recommendation.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg's administration says the Electric Zoo festival performances for Sunday have been cancelled.
The city says it recommended the event being held on Randall's Island be stopped after two attendees died and four others had to be hospitalized during the first two days of performances on Friday and Saturday.
The city says the deaths appear to have been linked to drugs, specifically MDMA, or ecstasy. Definitive causes of death have not yet been determined.
An email to the event promoters seeking comment was not immediately answered.
