A 32-year-old Tampa man is dead after a crash Tuesday afternoon on Interstate 4, and affected traffic for several hours.
About 2:13 p.m., the man was driving a 2006 Saturn 2-door east on I-4 near Mile Marker 6 at a high rate of speed when he lost control, the Florida Highway Patrol reports. The car entered the median, then re-entered the lane of travel, where it collided with an eastbound 2014 Ford 4-door driven by Travis C. Jenkins, 30, of Plant City.
The Saturn then spun out and entered the path of a semi driven by Gerard L. Cole, 60, of Mobile, Ala. The Saturn came to rest in the outside lane of the interstate.
The driver, whose name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, was taken to Tampa General Hospital, where he died of his injuries.
No charges have been filed.
Traffic was blocked in two lanes for several hours, but all lanes have reopened.
