FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) — A landing gear malfunction has reportedly caused a fire for a FedEx plane at the Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood Airport.
Officials with the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue were able to put out the heavy flames around 6:00 p.m. Friday. The plane was rolling along runway 10L after arriving from Memphis, Tennessee.
The plane could be seen on its belly along the runway as firefighters hosed it down. Flames destroyed one of the aircraft’s wings, including an engine.
It’s unknown whether there are any injuries.
The airport was closed and officials have ordered flights to remain grounded. Flights are being diverted to Palm Beach and Fort Meyers.
