TAMPA, Fla. -- A 69-year-old Jacksonville driver is dead after a fiery crash Wednesday afternoon on the Howard Frankland Bridge, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The crash happened around 4:00 p.m. when the driver, whose name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, lost control of his 2008 Kia Spectra while headed southbound on Interstate 275 near State Road 60, FHP said.
The car was in the center lane, swerved to the inside shoulder and hit the median wall. It then overturned several times and caught fire.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
Traffic in both directions on the bridge were partially blocked at the scene was cleared. All lanes on the bridge have since reopened.
The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate.
