TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Dozens of Florida Highway Patrol troopers are being deployed to Puerto Rico to assist with security operations and traffic control in and around San Juan, Gov. Rick Scott said Tuesday.
The 50 troopers are headed to the island, at the request of the Puerto Rico Police Department, as it continues to recover from Hurricane Maria.
The troopers are expected to be in Puerto Rico for a month.
"I want to thank these brave men and women for sacrificing time away from their families during Thanksgiving to serve in Puerto Rico," Scott said in a statement. "We will continue to work with state, federal and local partners to assist Puerto Rico in any way that we can."
