Naples, FL (News-Press.com) - A tourist, injured last week when a mattress flew off a passing truck and hit him on the head in North Naples, has been released from a local hospital.
Igor Stacho, 50, a construction contractor from Maryland, is now receiving further treatment at a local rehabilitation center, his wife, Katarina Stacho, said.
Her husband's condition, she said, is improving daily.
"He's doing really, really great. He's strong physically because he works in construction," she said.
Igor Stacho was severely injured April 5 when he and a friend he was visiting were walking along the sidewalk on the north side of Pine Ridge Road just west of Interstate 75.
An unidentified truck carrying a load of furniture drove past them and a mattress with a metal frame flew off the vehicle and struck Stacho in the head, causing a skull fracture and spinal injuries, according to reports.
He was taken to Physicians Regional Hospital nearby, where he was treated and then released Wednesday evening, his wife said.
Detectives were reviewing film from a traffic light camera and checking with local rental companies to try and find the driver of the truck, but so far, there is no new information regarding the case, officials said.
