DAYTONA BEACH, Florida (WKMG) -- A tractor-trailer carrying 55,000 pounds of bottled beer overturned on Interstate 95 in Volusia County early Monday, spilling the brew and forcing authorities to close the roadway.

Bottles of Heineken and Amstel Light were broken in the crash, which happened about 4 a.m. in the northbound lanes of I-95 near LPGA Boulevard. 

I-95 northbound reopened around 10:45 a.m. after work crews cleared broken glass and debris from the interstate.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the beer truck driver, 46-year-old Marcos Martinez, of Miami, said a tractor-trailer swerved in front of him, causing him to lose control of his big rig.  Troopers, however, said there were no skid marks on the roadway.

The beer truck went into a ditch on the side of the interstate for about 700 feet before Martinez steered the big rig back onto the roadway, troopers said.  The tractor-trailer then rotated counter-clockwise before turning over onto the passenger side and slid for 200 feet, troopers said.

No one was injured in the crash.

Charges are pending against Martinez, and an investigation is ongoing, troopers said.
