Plantation, FL - South Plantation Senior Erin Dimeglio has quite the arm.
"It's a boy's sport, but I'm playing"
And she's making history as the first girl in the state to play quarterback on a boy's varsity football team.
"It makes me feel good because i want to inspire other girls to come out and like, and do something that someone told them they can't do".
This seventeen-year-old drafted by Doug Gatewood who coached her in girls flag football and knew she had the skills to play tackle with the boys.
"Not a matter of her being a girl to me, if she wasn't a legitimate football player she wouldn't be here. She's one of us, and we just treat her like she's one of us and not anything different not anything more or anything less."
Dimeglio does everything with the boys from throwing to running and even wears the pads if she's tackled, which concerned her parents at first.
"Excited for Erin. I mean how cool is this for your kid, to have their dream come true."
Erin has the whole season to try to make her dream of throwing a touchdown a reality.
"People come up to me, and I don't even know who they are and they say 'that is so cool that you're playing football. They really think it's cool" and she says she doesn't mind standing out as the only girl among the boys.
Watching her spiral throw, it's hard to believe this isn't even her best sport. Come college, Erin is hoping to switch the football for the basketball.
And who knows, she might be good enough to play with the boys on the court too.
