A man was arrested in Volusia County on allegations of carjacking a motorist so he could take his pregnant girlfriend to a hospital.
Robert Boudreaux, 31, of Deltona, faces charges of armed carjacking, fleeing or eluding and driving with a suspended license.
According to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office, Boudreaux's 22-year-old girlfriend ran out of gas in DeLand, and the couple was dropped off in Deltona by a friend.
The couple walked several miles, but the woman started to feel dehydrated and said she was bleeding, according to deputies, who added that the couple had cellphones and walked past a fire station on Howland Boulevard but didn't seek help.
Deputies said Boudreaux tried a few times to get cars to stop on North Normandy Boulevard, so he picked up his girlfriend and walked into the path of a car, forcing it to stop. Boudreaux demanded that the 20-year-old driver take them to a hospital, but the driver refused until Boudreaux threatened to shoot him, deputies said.
The couple got into the car, and the driver stopped for a red light, prompting Boudreaux to grab the driver's seat belt while he threatened to shoot him, deputies said. The driver got out and Broudreaux drove away, deputies said.
The driver called 911 and deputies found the stolen vehicle, which pulled into the parking lot of Florida Hospital Fish Memorial in Orange City, deputies said. The car was finally blocked in by patrol cars, and Boudreaux was taken into custody.
Boudreaux's girlfriend told deputies that she had tried to get Boudreaux to stop for them. The woman, who does not face charges, was then escorted to the hospital's emergency room.
Boudreaux was booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail in Daytona Beach.
