POINCIANA, Florida (WKMG) -- A husband and wife who teach in Osceola County were arrested on child abuse and other charges after a boy in their care was burned on his face with a cigarette lighter, according to deputies.
Bianca Vacek, 51, and Thomas Vacek, 53, both whom teach at Poinciana High School were arrested Tuesday in Kissimmee.
Bianca Vacek faces charges of aggravated domestic child abuse, battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting without violence. Thomas Vacek faces charges of failure to report child abuse and resisting arrest without violence.
According to the Osceola County Sheriff's Office, deputies took a report from the boy's mother who said she noticed what appeared to be a burn mark on her son's face. The boy had been staying with the Vaceks for the past week, according to deputies.
The boy told his mother that while Bianca Vacek was drunk, she burned him with a cigarette lighter, according to the Sheriff's Office.
A doctor said the victim had burn marks near his mouth and nose, and detectives also discovered that Thomas Vacek had knowledge of the incident and did not report it to law enforcement, deputies said.
Detectives tried to speak with the Vaceks, but they did not cooperate and both resisted arrest when deputies attempted to take them into custody.
The Osceola School District told our partners at WKMG Local 6 that Bianca Vacek teaches exceptional student education and Thomas Vacek teaches 10th-grade reading.
School officials said both teachers have been reassigned out of the school until an investigation is completed.
The Vaceks were booked into the Osceola County Jail.
