Naples, Florida (News-Press) -- At least two media production companies are casting for the upcoming Python Challenge 2013, a state-sponsored Burmese hunt that is expected
to draw participants from as far away as Colorado and New York.
Matador
Network and Naples-based ITZ Media Group have sent email pitches to
hunters who've already signed up for the competition. Emails from both
companies say they are pitching a reality show to major cable networks.

The
Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation will pay out $1,500 and $1,000
prizes for the most Burmese pythons caught and longest Burmese in two
categories: trained, permit-holders and the general public.
The
hunt starts at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 12 and ends at midnight on
Sunday, Feb. 10. Entry fee is $25 and includes a liability waiver.
Non-permit holders can get certified for the hunt after taking a 30
minute online tutorial. No one under age 18 can compete in the
non-permit class.
