Girl in hospital intensive care unit after school bus crash

VALDOSTA, Ga. (AP) — Authorities say one of several students injured in a deadly school bus crash in south Georgia remains in the intensive care unit at a hospital.

Georgia State Patrol Cpl. Chris Kelch said in a statement Wednesday night that 15-year-old Sierra Landerverde of Valdosta was in the ICU at South Georgia Medical Center.

Authorities say another student, 15-year-old Rebecca Hall of Valdosta, died shortly after the Monday crash in Valdosta. More than a dozen other students were hurt.

Kelch said a semitrailer carrying a load of metal beams collided with the bus as it traveled south on Interstate 75 from Lowndes High School to Lowndes Middle School.

Valdosta, in far south Georgia, is about 15 miles from the Florida line.
