Hope for peanut allergy sufferers

St. Petersburg, Florida -- If you're one of the 2.8 million people with peanut allergies, there's hope you could indulge without any potentially deadly side effects.

According to the USDA, researchers at North Carolina A&T University are working on a way to reduce allergens in peanuts by 98 to 100 percent by treating them with a food-grade enzyme to break down the allergenic proteins.

They say the same process could be done to wheat and tree nuts to treat those allergens.
