Hernando deputy shoots armed robbery suspect dead; 2nd suspect at large

A Hernando County Sheriff's Office deputy shot one suspect and another remains on the loose after an armed robbery of a Dollar General store on Tuesday.

HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. -- One suspect has been shot and killed by a Hernando County Sheriff's Office deputy and another is still at large following an armed robbery in Brooksville on Tuesday.

The shooting occurred in the area of Saturn and Endsley Roads. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect at large is described as a male in his 20's, wearing blue jeans and a black shirt. He is considered to be armed and dangerous. He is believed to be in the area of U.S. 41 and Ayers Road.

Multiple agencies are involved in the manhunt for the second suspect, including the Pasco County Sheriff's Office, the Florida Highway Patrol and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Council Commission.

Air units and K-9 units are reported to be scouring the area in the search.

Deputies are asking the public in the area to stay indoors and to contact 911 if they see anything suspicious.

Hernando Sheriff Al Nienhuis told the media in a press conference that deputies had to resort to deadly force in their interaction with two dangerous suspects who robbed a Dollar General Store earlier Tuesday.

Both suspects escaped in a vehicle that is possibly linked to other crimes in the northeast United States. Nienhuis reported that his department has been in contact with other jurisdictions to ascertain more information about the suspects.
