How much are your holiday lights costing you?

10News' Jennifer Titus is adding it up

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Torey DeGrazia has finally gotten around to hanging up his Christmas lights.

“This is the first year doing it so I am not sure where it’s going to end up,” he said.

But 10investigates wants to ensure Torey and others don’t get hung up on their electric bill due to that extra sparkle outside.

Duke Energy’s Holiday Lighting Calculator, which is free, allows users to calculate the extra power cost by the number of strings of lights, the type of bulb and how long they're plugged in per day.

“I have them plugged in probably about five hours a day,” DeGrazia said.

The calculator determined DeGrazia could save about $12 a month by switching his bulbs from incandescent to LED’s.

While DeGrazia hasn't noticed his bill go up by much, he admits knowing how to save this time of year is an early Christmas gift he’s happy to know about.
