Zephyrhills, Florida -- 10 Investigates confirmed first that marijuana was found inside a Pasco fire station.
The investigation is being launched because a small amount of marijuana, less than an ounce, was found Friday around 10:30 a.m. in Pasco Fire Station 16 which is in Zephyrhills.
"I think it's a disservice to the community," said Zephyrhils neighbor Luiz Veloz.
"Wow, that's extremely disappointing for me because that's the people you trust," said another neighbor Edwin Rodriguez.
"It seems like somebody over there is smoking," said Veloz. "I don't want that person coming to my house if, God forbid, a fire occurs because they got to come with the right state of mind."
Pasco County tells us a Pasco Fire Rescue employee found pot near one of the fire trucks. Both bays where the trucks are kept were open. When we talked with a firefighter there off camera he would not answer our questions, except to confirm that the pot was found there.
"Being a firefighter you have the responsibility to respect your role as a firefighter and have a clear mind and not have any substances in your system," said Veloz.
Neighbors hope the situation is isolated to only one individual.
The County has launched an investigation to see if public safety employees at the station are involved. It's not a criminal investigation just yet with the Pasco County Sheriff's Office. The HR department is trying to determine if it can, or will, drug test all the employees at the station.
