Jury: Murdering mom must pay $500M judgment

PASCO COUNTY, Fla. -- Justice was not enough for a Tampa Bay father in a 1999 case involving a Pasco mother who killed her youngest son in a murder-suicide attempt.

According to our content partners at the Tampa Bay Times, a jury awarded a father and son with a $500 million judgment against Kristina Gaime, 52.

Gaime was held liable for the death of Stephen Rotell's youngest son in a crime that shook the region . Gaime attempted to kill herself and her two sons in a running GMC minivan with a hose connected from the tailpipe into the car window.

Six-year-old Matthew, died. But Adam Rotell, now 25 years old and Gaime survived. His mother was sentenced to prison and served nearly 17 years before she was released earlier this year.

The large jury award was the conclusion of a long-running lawsuit brought by Stephen Rotell against Gaime. According to the Times, Stephen Rotell will continue to pursue more litigation against his ex-wife.
