1 dead, 2 hospitalized in Countryside Mall crash

Clearwater, Florida -- One person was killed and two others seriously injured in a car crash outside the Westfield Countryside Mall Friday evening.

The Florida Highway Patrol says a Volkswagon Jetta, driven by 82-year-old Rafael De Jesus Bande, tried to make left in the Countryside Mall parking lot at Summerdale Drive. At the same time, 24-year-old Cassidy George's Hyundai Sonata was heading east on SR 580.

As Bande tried to make the left, he drove into the path of George's Sonata. After impact, George's Sonata was re-directed and crashed into a Toyota Rav-4 waiting at a red light on Summerdale Drive facing north.

Bande was taken to Mease Dunedin Hospital where he later died from his injuries.

George and her passenger, 20-year-old Samuel Woodward, were taken to St. Joseph's Hospital with serious injuries.

The occupants in the third vehicle were not injured.
