10 Community: Big art weekend in Tampa

Tampa, Florida - The forecast looks great for one of the longest-running and largest art shows in the Tampa Bay area. The Gasparilla Festival of the Arts takes place Saturday and Sunday in Tampa's Curtis Hixon park.

The festival is in its 44th year and it's known for the high quality of work shown. GFA Board President Brandon Hicks explains that a selection jury starts out with more than 1,000 applications and winnows that number down to 235 artists.

"We get a lot of artists from up North. It's rather chilly up there now, and they're looking forward to some nice Tampa weather," said Hicks.

The show features 13 different categories of art including sculpture, mixed media, painting, and jewelry.
