12 forced out, teen critically hurt in fire

Hillsborough County Fire Rescue units responded to an apartment building fire located at 3849 South Lake .Dr ( Whisper Lake Condos). Multiple 9-1-1 calls came in stating that there were heavy flames and smoke coming from the building.

Multiple residents had evacuated the building to a safe location. Fire crews called for a second alarm due to the size of the building and the magnitude of the incident.

A teenage girl was treated and transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

It took fire rescue crews about 25 minutes to extinguished the blaze.

A total of six apartment units sustained severe fire, smoke and water damage and twelve people were displaced.

Hillsborough County Fire Rescue Office of Emergency Management representative was called to the scene to assist the residents with food, shelter and clothing in conjunction with Red Cross. The Fire Investigator was also called to the scene.

A total of 16 fire rescue vehicles and 35 personnel responded to this incident.

There were no other reports of injuries to civilians or firefighters.

The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time.
