18-month-old child severely bitten by family dog

ST. PETERSBURG, FLA. -- At about 6:50 p.m. this evening St. Petersburg Fire Rescue and Police responded to the Extend Stay America Hotel at 2311 Ulmerton Rd.

A couple staying at the hotel reported that their family dog, an 11-year-old female Husky mix breed, attacked Gabriel Maurice, their 18-month-old son, biting him severely in the face. The name of the dog is Kody.

The child has been admitted to All Children's Hospital in stable condition, but has significant facial wounds. The dog has been placed in the custody of Pinellas County Animal Control.

The family is from Massachusetts, but is in the process of purchasing a home in the area. They report that the dog is a long-time family pet and has never shown any aggressive behavior toward the child before this incident.

Kody is currently in quarantine tonight.
