SEMINOLE, Florida - A woman was killed in a late-night house fire on Greenbriar Drive in Seminole.

Pinellas County Sheriff's detectives say it the fire started around 11 p.m. when Sonja Skemp lit a cigarette while in her bedroom and her pajamas caught on fire. She was not able to stop the fire from spreading and called for help while heading towards the bathroom.

Her husband, Samuel Skemp, who walks with a cane, was on the other side of the house and was not able to get to her in time.

Sonja, 84, died at the scene. Samuel, 86, was not injured. The two were married 62 years and had lived at that home for over 25 years.
