Tarpon Springs, Florida -- The Tarpon Springs High School band was surprised at a rally Tuesday night when the band's director announced they would be performing at the 2013 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
The band will perform in front of a nationwide audience of more than 50 million viewers at the annual holiday spectacular on Nov. 21, 2013.
"We are so thrilled to welcome the Tarpon Springs High School Outdoor Performance Ensemble into our band family," said Wesley Whatley, Creative Director of Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, in a release. "They have clearly distinguished themselves as one of the finest music programs in the country and we look forward to hosting them for their debut Macy's Parade performance in 2013."
Tarpon Springs High School will represent the state of Florida as one of the 11 bands in America scheduled to perform in the parade.
"I speak for our entire organization and alumni when I say it is extremely humbling to be given the opportunity to represent our school, community, and state in front of more than 50 million television viewers in arguably one of the most popular American annual Thanksgiving Day traditions," said Kevin Ford, Tarpon Springs High School Band Director.
The band will begin preparations for the big day immediately.
