TAMPA, Florida (AP) - Authorities say one of two drivers accused of fatally hitting a pedestrian has turned himself in.
Twenty-seven-year-old Javier Fernandez was arrested early Monday. He's charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident and driving without a valid driver's license.
The Tampa Bay Times reports Cynthia Myhal was walking along a Tampa street Saturday night when she was hit by Fernandez. The force of the crash sent Myhal into the path of a black Nissan Maxima. Both vehicles left the scene.
Myhal was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities say the Maxima is a late 1990s model with a sunroof and a Florida orange and black specialty tag. It possibly has damage to its undercarriage.
Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
