St. Petersburg, Florida - One man was shot and two others are in custody after a robbery turned into a police pursuit that ended near the Wal-Mart at 34th Street and Third Avenue North, police said.
According to preliminary information, officers responded to a robbery alarm at a business at 1116 34th Street North, and saw two armed suspects leave the building and run to an awaiting vehicle.
The vehicle committed a hit-run crash as it left the parking lot. The suspects then fled south on 34th Street with police in pursuit.
"At some point, one of the suspects pointed a long gun at one of the officers in pursuit and it appears the officer fired at the suspects' vehicle," said police spokesman Bill Proffitt. "The suspects' vehicle crashed somewhere in the area of about 3rd Avenue North and 34th Street North."
He said three suspects are in custody. The injured suspect had a non life-threatening gunshot wound to the leg and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
