Holiday, Florida -- With one of the highest homeless rates in the nation, the Tampa Bay area can be a hard place for people in tough times to get back on their feet.
Now, one local business leader is taking it upon himself to help out.
Scott Fink has been helping people get moving at Hyundai of New Port Richey since 2003. Born in Brooklyn, New York and raised in the projects, Fink has come a long way.
"We're one of the biggest dealers in the country," he says.
One night, Scott and his wife sat down to watch an episode of 60 Minutes. They watched a segment about homeless children that took place in central Florida.
"It really disturbed us," says Scott. "When I looked over to my wife, she had a tear in her eye and she said, 'We've got to try and do something.'"
And do something they did. Scott made some calls and before you know it, $100,000 out of his own pocket was donated to Metropolitan Ministries.
Scott's donation was used at the Holiday location for Metropolitan Ministries. The idea would be to develop 20+ units for transitional housing as well as a restaurant that will train and employ folks to get them back on their feet.
"We would like to see families come in with a need and go out independent, and that would be great," he says.
Scott hopes other business leaders will get involved, and help Metro Ministries build transitional housing and a restaurant for people who need it the most.
