Madeira Beach, Florida -- Two people were injured Monday morning near Madeira Beach Elementary and Middle schools when a driver crashed into another car causing a bicyclist to sideswipe a school crossing guard.
The sheriff's office says around 7:15 a.m., Michelle Tallman turned from westbound American Legion Drive onto southbound Duhme Road when she saw school drop-off traffic was backed up on the road. She then swerved into the curb lane and reportedly hit a Kari Monefeldt's car that was heading south.
As a result of the impact, Monefeldt's car spun into Hung The Nguyen's bicycle path causing him to swerve out of the way and sideswipe School Crossing Guard Susan Daugherty.
Tallman, 37, who was not injured, was cited for Careless Driving. Nguyen, 92, was also not injured and Daugherty, 89, was treated at the scene for minor injuries. Monefeldt, 44, was taken to Largo Medical Center with minor injuries.
Deputies urge motorists to be very careful around school crossings as traffic has increased, and more pedestrians--mostly children--are out earlier in the day.
