USA TODAY confirmed the appearance of the actor-director with a Republican familiar with the convention schedule. The source asked for anonymity because he was not authorized to speak ahead of Eastwood's appearance tonight.

Earlier today, Romney strategist and convention planner Russ Schriefer repeatedly declined to confirm Eastwood was the buzzed-about mystery guest because "it wouldn't be a mystery anymore."
Eastwood formally endorsed Romney this month at a fundraising event in Idaho. "I said, God, this guy, he's too handsome to be governor, but he does look like he could be president," Eastwood said. "'As the years have gone by, I began to think even more so about that."
The Academy Award-winner was previously featured in a high-profile Super Bowl ad about the comeback at Chrysler, which some viewed as an endorsement of President Obama's handling of the auto bailout. Eastwood said at the time he was not "politically affiliated" with the president.
