BRANDON, Florida - Some people who live in the Wellington neighborhood in Brandon are a bit uneasy Sunday after a deadly shooting happened their community.
Investigators with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office have identified the victim as 19-year-old Daniel Oliver.
"It's just a little too close for comfort two houses away from where I live," said neighbor Cassandra Chaplin.
According to detectives, they got a call at around 3:30 p.m. about a fight that had broken out and shots fired in a home along the 1400 block of Scotch Pine Drive. Investigators said when they arrived they found Oliver dead inside the house.
Authorities said the shooter was waiting for investigators and is co-operating. It's unclear exactly what led up to this fight and the circumstances surrounding it, but according to investigators, both Oliver and the shooter (whose name has not been released yet) lived in the house.
According to neighbors, the house was in foreclosure for months and then, less than a month ago, people moved in. There's been some suspicion, they add.
"Don't know if they actually own it, rent it, or they're just squatting," said neighbor Michael Harvey.
"It's been a little traffic here lately in the last month or so. Unknown people. Unfamiliar faces. Younger people. And cars pulling in," added Chaplin.
While investigators don't believe this was a random act, some neighbors said they will be a bit more cautious now.
Detectives said the shooter is in custody and they will be working with to the State Attorney's Office to determine if any charges will be filed.
