Tampa, Florida -- John Scalise, 35, and his wife, 41-year-old Kathy Garcia, are behind bars after deputies linked them to $101,000 worth of stolen jewelry, and the robberies of at least six Asian restaurants across the country.
Last month, Hillsborough deputies identified Scalise as the suspect wanted for stealing $35,000 worth of jewelry from the Sears Department Store at University Square Mall.
Through combined efforts of the several police agencies in Florida as well as South Carolina, investigators discovered Scalise was also a suspect in numerous burglaries to Asian Restaurants across those jurisdictions.
Hillsborough Sheriff's detectives found out Scalise and Garcia may be in the area of Atlantic City, NJ, and they worked alongside Egg Harbor Township Police to locate the couple on Saturday.
By that time, Scalise reportedly burglarized a Macy's Department Store in Egg Harbor Township, and six more Asian Restaurants in surrounding townships.
Scalise stole $66,000 in jewelry from Macy's, officials say.
Investigators recovered approximately $30,000 worth of jewelry from the Sears burglary, $66,000 worth of jewelry from Macy's, $3,000 in cash and merchandise and a "unique mask that was worn in multiple cases in Hillsborough County," officials report.
Scalise and Garcia are now being held in the Atlantic Detention Facility in New Jersey. Officials denied Scalise bond, and Garcia is being held on a $100,000 bond.
