BRADENTON, Florida (AP) - A panel of law enforcement experts met to review the Bradenton Beach Police Department's investigation into the 2009 death of a 22-year-old woman.
The Bradenton Herald reports that the Florida Department of Law Enforcement's Specialized Multi-Agency Review Team, or SMART team, met in Highlands County.
Morris, 22, was found hanging in a shower stall of a Bradenton Beach hotel on New Year's Day 2009. Morris' mother and some forensic experts say Bradenton Beach police bungled the investigation and mistakenly classified a murder as suicide.
The Manatee County Medical Examiner later changed Morris' autopsy report from "suicide" to "undetermined." Bradenton Beach Police Chief Sam Speciale has refused to reopen the case.
