Bartow, Florida -- A funeral for Polk County's first African-American judge will take place this Saturday.
The service for Judge Karla Foreman Wright will be at the First Baptist Church of Bartow at 11 a.m.
Church workers say the funeral service is open to the public for people to come and pay their respects to Judge Wright, who became the first black woman named to the Polk County court as a judge in the year 2000.
She was appointed by then-Governor Jeb Bush.
Wright passed away Monday at the age of 63.
The church says in lieu of flowers, Wright's family has requested that donations be made to the Polk County Alumni Chapter of Florida A&M University.
