Brandon, Florida -- A U.S. District Judge sentenced a Brandon husband and wife to life sentences Monday for the contract killing of the woman's former husband.
The U.S. State Attorney's Office reported Cristie and Jerry Bottorff were sentenced to three concurrent terms of life in prison for hiring Luis Lopez to kill Thomas Sehorne.
Trial evidence revealed Thomas Sehorne was found shot to death outside his home in Lithia on the morning of June 7, 2007. Later that day, his widow, Cristie Fay Sehorne, took their two young children and moved in with Jerry Bottorff.
Soon after, Cristie tried to collect on her husband's life insurance policies and a settlement was ultimately reached.
Cristie and Jerry married in December 2008 and almost lived happily ever after until their friend, Mike Garcia -- who found their hit man, was arrested and spilled the beans on the couple's involvement in Thomas' death.
The pair were arrested on May 23, 2011.
They pleaded guilty to all charges on July 9, 2012 and later testified against their hit man, Luis Lopez. Both also testified that they asked their friend, Mike Garcia, to find someone to murder Thomas, and that they would pay them $60,000, once they got the insurance money.
