Palmetto, Florida -- The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a hit-and-run crash that killed a man while he was walking on US 41 early Tuesday morning.
Troopers say around 3:10 a.m., the yet unidentified 52-year-old was walking south on the east shoulder of US 41 near 85th Street E. when he was hit by a vehicle heading north in the outside lane. The vehicle then fled the scene.
While the man was lying in the road, he was then run over by another car whose driver said he didn't see him. That driver did stop and reported the accident. The pedestrian died at the scene from his injuries.
The FHP is asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has any knowledge as to the identity of the driver or the vehicle to contact them at 239-938-1800. The vehicle may have damage to the front end.
