TAMPA, Florida -- Tampa police say 68 adults were arrested during the Gasparilla 2013 festivities in downtown Tampa on Saturday.
Sixty of those arrests were for misdemeanors such as disorderly conduct, petty theft, and possession of marijuana. Thirty-one of the misdemeanor arrests were for underage drinking by an adult 18-20 years old.
The Tampa Police Department says it did not encounter as many younger teens under the influence as in previous years, thanks to a zero tolerance education campaign.
Gasparilla has been a Tampa tradition since 1947, and ranks as the third largest parade in the United States, according to the event's official website. It attracts an estimated one half million attendees annually.
