Tampa, Florida -- Reports of shots fired led Tampa Police to the scene of a crashed Chevy pick-up truck, found with multiple bullet holes and blood in the front seats early Tuesday morning.
According to reports, the truck was found in the front yard of a vacant home off the 3500 block of E Mohawk Ave.
A short while into the active police investigation, a call came in regarding an injured shooting victim at a home just down the road.
It turned out the 17-year-old victim, who was driving the truck with another teen, was reportedly shot in the buttocks while trying to run away from an altercation that started with "an unknown subject" over drugs.
During the fight, reports say, the unknown subject pulled a pistol and fired several shots into the pick-up.
When the driver crashed into the fence in the yard of the vacant home, the shooter continued firing, and did not stop as the victim attempted to get away.
The victim was transported to Tampa General Hospital for the non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
Officials continue to search for the suspect, and ask anyone with information regarding the incident to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-873-TIPS or report tips online at www.crimestopperstb.com.
