Weeki Wachee, Florida -- An employee with Weeki Wachee State Park faces fraud charges after he was caught charging gasoline for his personal vehicle on the company credit card.
Hernando County deputies reportedly began an investigation into the fraudulent charges after an employee of the park reported a discrepancy in the amount of gas being used at the park.
Park employees looked at the logs kept for on-site gas purchases and realized about 30 separate purchases, totaling over $1,500, for gas were unaccounted for.
Because each employee has a credit card with their own PIN number, investigators were able to link the purchases to 26-year-old Dakota Hardesty. They discovered when he left for lunch in his own vehicle, he wasn't taking any gasoline cans from the park, but would return with a receipt that gas was purchased. This had been traced back to September 2012.
When deputies interviewed Hardesty about the allegations he reportedly confessed to the crime. He was arrested and charged with organized fraud.
