Tampa, Florida -- Tonight, Feb. 9, Ybor City's 7th Avenue will light up for the Krewe of Sant' Yago Knight Parade.
The parade starts at 7 p.m. and goes east on 7th Avenue, from Nuccio Parkway to 22nd Street. Shops and restaurants in Ybor City will remain open all evening, and there is free spectator viewing all along the parade route.
The Knight Parade is a Tampa tradition, hosted by the Krewe of the Knights of Sant' Yago since 1974.
The celebration features illuminated floats, costumed participants, marching bands, lively music, dancing in the streets, and lots of beads. Last year, more than 7,500 participants and over 110,000 people turned out for the event.
The 2013 grand marshal is Agustin Iglesias Caunedo, mayor of Oviedo, Spain.
Special guest on the MOR float, TV talk show host Steve Wilkos, is honorary grand marshal.
The official name of the event for 2013 is the Krewe of Sant' Yago Knight Parade presented by MOR.
The parade is the Krewe of the Knights of Sant' Yago's largest fundraiser of the year. A portion of its proceeds benefit the Krewe of Sant' Yago Education Foundation, which now in its 18th year has contributed in excess of $1 million to endow scholarships at local colleges and universities.
