Tampa, FL-- The Tampa Bay Lightning put power forward Ryan Malone on injured reserved Monday, with a lower body injury. Malone suffered the injury prior to Sunday night's game with the New York Rangers. According to multiple reports, Malone aggravated an old injury, when he was warming up with teammates in a soccer kick-around in the hallway outside the team locker room. Kicking around a soccer ball, or tossing a football, is a routine warmup for most NHL hockey teams.
The Lightning recalled forward forward Richard Panik, from Syracuse of the American Hockey League. Panik was drafted by the Lightning in the 2nd round of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. He's 6'1", and 208 pounds, and a native of Slovakia.
Panik scored 21 goals, with 14 assists, in 43 games with Syracuse this season.
