SPRING HILL, Florida - Authorities say a man was shot while Hernando County Sheriff's deputies were checking out a suspicious person report in Spring Hill.
The shooting happened late Wednesday.
The Tampa Bay Times reports that neighbors heard commotion before the shooting.
Investigators say Deputy Ramona Fuhs was the first to arrive on scene, and was confronted by 18-year-old Joseph Ryan Berrios.
Berrios was shot and taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Deputy Fuhs was also taken to the hospital, and has since been released.
Berrios was charged with battery of a law enforcement officer and had his bond set at $10,000.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will investigate the shooting, which is a standard procedure after a shooting. The sheriff's office will also conduct its own investigation.
