Wimauma, Florida -- Shortly after midnight on March 16, deputies from the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office responded responded to a shooting in Wimauma.
Minutes later, the deputies received a call from South Bay Hospital stating that a young, Hispanic male had been dropped off at the hospital suffering from several gunshot wounds. The victim reported that he and his friends were driving through Wimauma, when a male standing at a corner began shooting.
Deputies were able to determine that the shooting most likely occurred in front of the residence in Wimauma. The victim's friends later returned to the hospital where they had dropped the victim off, but the vehicle they were driving during the shooting, a black Pontiac Grand Am with tinted windows, has yet to be located.
Deputies are still trying to obtain a description of the suspect(s) and a possible vehicle.
Due to the victim's injuries, he was evacuated to Tampa General Hospital and is currently undergoing surgery.
