Winter Haven, Florida -- UPDATE: Winter Haven Police officials say 19-year-old Erin Fitzgerald has been found safe in Winter Haven.
Initial reports said Fitzgerald left her home shortly after 2 a.m. Tuesday, when a friend woke up to find Fitzgerald bleeding from self-inflicted cuts.
Reports sent just after 4 p.m. on Tuesday credit "the rapid response of the media" and the "'sharing of information' on Facebook" with the success of the case.
"Thank you to all of our media partners and social media friends for their dedication and the timely response in reporting the missing person," said Chief Gary Hester.
Winter Haven Police are asking for the public's help locating a girl who took off and is considered a danger to herself.
Around 2 o'clock Tuesday morning, a friend told police she woke up and found 19-year-old Erin Fitzgerald bleeding from self-inflicted cuts on her arm. She then fled the apartment on foot and is still missing at this time. She was last seen heading north on Chain of Lakes Trail.
Police and family members fear for her safety and are asking anyone with information on her whereabouts to call 911 immediately.
She is described as a white female, with dark brown hair generally pulled back away from her face and brown eyes. She has large tattoos on both upper arms and was last seen wearing dark-colored basketball-style shorts, a white T-shirt and no shoes.
