Clearwater, Florida -- The Skycrest Elementary School teacher accused of child abuse made her first appearance in court Friday.

Melanie Joe Fox is accused of kicking and pulling a girl's hair and hitting her with a book. She's also accused of binding the students hands with tape and rubber bands.

"The teacher did admit to some allegations, and was arrested on two counts of child abuse of a six and and eight-year-old, both with special needs," Clearwater spokesperson Joelle Castelli said to press Thursday.

The mother of one of the victims said she was in court to stand up for the victims.

"This bully that he [my son] has been telling me for two months is obviously the bully that's behind bars today," said Cotie Andrade.

Another woman was in court today to support Fox saying that she helped her daughter, who has special needs, when nobody else would.

The judge set bond at $20,000. Fox was ordered not to have any contact with anyone under 18.
