LARGO, Florida (AP) - A judge sentenced a St. Petersburg woman to 18 years in prison for her involvement in a fatal crash while eluding authorities during a drug deal.
Pinellas-Pasco Circuit Judge Timothy Peters called the case a "horrific situation" as he issued the sentence on Tuesday in Largo. Stacy Lynn Naples pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide, aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer, child neglect and drug possession.
Authorities say 30-year-old Naples had her 5-year-old nephew in the vehicle when she sped away from police during a drug deal on July 13, 2011.
The Tampa Bay Times reports Naples ran a stop sign and veered into oncoming traffic before crashing into 50-year-old Richard Trompke, who died.
The judge ordered Naples to serve five years of probation after prison.
