The Tampa Port Authority signs agreement to develop express rail service for refrigerated cargoes between Tampa and Midwest market
Tampa, Florida-- The Tampa Port Authority has agreed to build a brand new express rail service out of the Port that will connect to the Midwest.
The Tampa Port Authority announced the signing of a letter of intent for the rail service with Green Express on Monday.
The service, operated by CSX Transportation, is specifically for a mix of refrigerated and dry cargo. It will provide two express trains per week between Tampa and Kingsbury, Indiana- very close to Chicago, Illinois.
Port representatives say the option will assist the food and agricultural industry in both markets, and also allow ocean carriers currently serving the markets a more efficient option.
"We are proud to be part of this great initiative, together with the Green Express group, and CSX Transportation," said Paul Anderson, president and CEO of the Tampa Port Authority. "This service supports our efforts to make the Port of Tampa a major gateway for the Florida market and beyond."
